We’ve left the marina, we’ve refuelled, and filled with water. Now it is time to begin our journey!

This week’s episode returns to our old vlogging style: lots of action and travel, plus some gorgeous footage of the great British countryside.
Bridges and Locks From Thorne
Despite the short journey in this episode, which covers four miles from Staniland Marina in Thorne, to Moores Swing bridge to the east, there are a number of locks and bridges to negotiate. Some are more difficult than others.
Thorne Lock
This is normally manned, and you want to hope it is because the gates can be a bit temperamental. Also, it is a bridge and lock combination, so everything is done at the same time. If you’re coming from the west, you must wait for the lock to fill up before opening the bridge.

Princess Bridge
You’re on your own here, although the pedestrians you hold up negotiating this are normally better informed about its quirks than the boaters passing through! The key here is to listen for a distinctive click. It’s the gates to the pathway that normally get stuck, so turning the key a couple of times until it clicks allows you to open and close them.

Wykwell Lift Bridge
Standard lift bridge, so no dramas here other than the tight angle if you tied up on the north side like we did. It’s a quiet b-road so you won’t be holding up too much traffic.

Moores Swing Bridge
Another quiet b-road and an easy operation.

We take you to two moorings, one lock, three bridges, all along the Stainforth and Keadby canal, heading east out of Thorne towards the River Trent. There’s a lot to see, so we hope you enjoy this little adventure.
