This is it, we’ve reached The End. A few months and 2500 miles from Malaysia to Indonesia later, we would be arriving at our destination, Medana Bay Marina.
It’s been incredible, incomparable and at times impossible. Broken engine mounts, a snapped deck fitting, dirty fuel, charging issues, a snarled prop, 40-knot storms, and five used diesel filters, had combined to make us wonder if the stress and anxiety was worth it?
We’ve reached the end, and it’s been a challenge. But the seas we sail, the people we meet and the new cultures we experience are the reason why we chose this lifestyle.
Before we were able to reach our final destination, we had one more night in a new anchorage to go. Despite the pilot guide claiming there was room for six boats, this anchorage was going to be a challenge.
According to Navionics, we were in a reef, with no clearly defined edges or depths. So we were relying solely on satellite images, and navigating by eyeball (and the seat of our pants)! With a catamaran anchored squarely in the middle, there was no wiggle room. We would need to make a precision drop to make the anchorage workable.
But it was tight, and if anything were to go wrong, we would be in a lot of trouble.

Hello Liz and Jamie
I have watched some of your videos and find them very honest and informative. You have had a great adventure so far!
Just wanted to get your advice on the idea of keeping a boat in Rebak for use in the winter months of the UK, say from November through till March or so, as we would need to be back in the UK for seasonal work. Could we leave a boat on the hard for 6 months of the year and is November to March a sensible time to sail on the west coast of the Malayan peninsula up to Thailand etc? Since you have a lot of experience in that part of the world, thought you could help.
We have a small catamaran on the south coast of England which we would use in the UK summer months..
You could keep it in Rebak on the hard. Our favourite hard-standing in Malaysia is Pangkor Marina. Alternatively, Krabi Boat Lagoon in Thailand is gorgeous. Sailing here at any time of the year can bring in some fierce winds, but generally Nov-Mar is deemed the best season to sail. Best of luck! Liz
