Most Impressive Cathedral In The World?

As Liz alluded to we both texted our parents and asked them what they recommend seeing in Malta. Both Liz’s mum, Dorothy, and Dad insisted on checking out St John’s Co-Cathedral, which he described as ‘gob-smacking’. I could not have put it better myself. Cathedral hunters should be reminded that St Paul’s Co-Cathedral is up there with the best. Possibly at the top. Utterly gob-smacking.

The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, 1608, by Caravaggio. At 3.6m x 5.2m this is an inspired piece of work. Note the absence of angels, halos and other fantasy features associated with art from this period. The reproduction of this image doesn't do the reds justice, unfortunately.
