There’s no video this week, but the good news is that we have a Q&A episode coming soon and want YOUR questions. So go ahead and ask us ANYTHING: sailing, travelling, sailboats, living aboard, how we started, best times, worst times, nothing’s out of bounds…
Cheers!
If you like our content and would like to support us, we will give you ad-free access to our videos before they go live to the public, discounts in our shop, access to Jamie’s iconic full-res photographs, and supporter-only blog posts. Click our ugly mugs for more info!
Thank you all for your questions! If we don’t answer them this week, fear not, we will be saving them for them Part 2.
Sorry, but we accidentally posted our question to your previous post first. Here it is…
Years ago you raised your waterline. How are you liking that? Did you cheerfully load right up to the new line? And if so, have you seen any difference in Esper’s performance or behavior?
P.S.: We would like to request that the VLOG episodes might include a bit more about the temperature and humidity, so we can relate better to what you are experiencing. Occasionally we hear one of you say “it’s [*deleted*] HOT” but other than that, we are left guessing.
Hi Friends,
I had myself detached from FB and Internet to re-organize my life here in SEA, hence my long silence.
Now my question to you: If I remember correctly you actually had planned to sail to Japan and than further north east to Alaska and the polar circle. Have you shelved this plan or is it only postponed?
Best regards from Thailand
And soon from Malaysia for good
Werner (aka dive yeti)
Good question! But perhaps they have now become so unalterably acclimatized to the sweltering sauna of the stunning far east tropics that they might well limit their high latitude exploration to the virtual realm… just as we expect we will never personally visit their (or your) alternately roasting and braising current location, and so we value their travelloguerry all the more.
We look forward to hearing them answer your question.
Question about boat insurance. Many marinas worldwide require that vessels are covered by 3rd party insurance as a minimum, which makes sense to me, however it seems that 20+year old yachts have trouble to obtain insurance. What is your experience?
I’ve always enjoyed Jamie’s photography-under water or above ground, it’s always a colorful treat! Can you share some details on how you organize your videos and photos? Do you use a specific product? Do you keep a catalog?
Cheers
JJ
Following a recent experience where within a week both my laptop and my phone failed, I was wondering how you stay in touch with your finances?
I have two bank accounts, two debit cards and a credit card. I lost access to my credit card account when my phone died. I tried to setup my new phone only to find the OTP could only be sent to a phone number I no longer have.
I lost access to one of my bank accounts for the same reason, the phone number they have is defunct and I can’t receive the OTP messages to setup the app on my new phone and to log into their website.
I was able to regain access to the second bank account but only because my failed phone worked just enough to allow me to setup the new phone.
And I have a savings account which I lost access to because of the defunct phone number.
My old devices worked because I’d been through the registration of those devices many years ago when the phone number was current. The new devices needed to be registered using an OTP to the defunct phone number.
Being in transit, I can only get a pay as you go SIM and cannot make international phone calls which is the only way one company would allow me to update my phone number. No WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger was supported.
I’m gradually sorting it out but am still down to one working debit card.
So how do you ensure you don’t become detached from your finances? I even had a backup phone but the apps on it were too out of date, and not updatable because of the age of the phone.
Fair winds
Colin.
