This week we cover the nail-biting task of re-stepping the masts. But before that we had to get all the deck fittings back in place, a task Jamie undertook himself with the help of one special carpenter, Ton.
And we cover the preparation and painting of Esper’s deck and topsides. There’s weeks of grinding and faring to be finished before we can apply the paint. And there was the little matter of the head painter gambling the money away and going AWOL.

In Part 3 we will cover the remodelling below decks, along with total re-wiring of the electrics and electronics, as well as installation of our out of the box B&G nav system. Five years later, would we have done anything differently? Find out in Part 4 where we also go through the full budget.
Our refit was undertaken at PSS Boat Yard in Satun, southern Thailand. If you’re in the area and need to do quality work on your boat, we can recommend PSS as the place to do it. Tell Julie that Jamie and Liz sent you.
At a time when accurate narratives are a scarcity, we believe everyone should learn about sailing and travel in an engaging and honest way. With followtheboat there is no fakery, titillation or sensationalism. We tell it like it really is.
