Have you got a bicycle on your sailboat?

Should every sailboat have a bicycle? Well, maybe not if it’s a racing yacht or if your superyacht already has its own helicopter. But for cruisers, we reckon a bicycle on a sailboat is a necessity.

A typical ride with Jamie at the saddle…

Folding bikes don’t take up much space and can be tucked away when you’re on passage. And when you’re in an anchorage or marina take it ashore and have it ready to use any time you like. Get away, explore, do the shopping. And get some exercise!

“One of the most important days of my life, was when I learned to ride a bicycle.”- Michael Palin, traveller, adventurer, original Python.

We have a bike each and we make good use of them when we’re in a marina or boat yard. Do you have a bike on a boat? Tell us about it and any bike-related yarns in the comments.

As always, thanks for supporting us and allowing us to share our adventure with you.

Peace and fair winds!

  1. I watched a fun video you did on this with you riding around on your bike. You’re funny, too! So, a question: What do you think of the Bromptons?

    1. I had one when we first moved on to the boat, but wasn’t that impressed with it considering the price. Our current bikes were a fraction of the cost, sourced in Penang, and parts are easy to source locally. I seem to remember that getting parts can be difficult overseas… Good luck!

    1. Jamie has a Raleigh, mine is a Chinese brand (I can’t remember the name), but both were bought because that’s what the shop had in stock. Try watching the video again for Jamie’s techy talk and warning about Bromptons on boats (FF to 04:50): https://youtu.be/0ypFvaarNhA
