Howdy Liz and Jamie,
I was wondering if you would be celebrating Black Tot Day (July 31st, 50th anniversary this year) aboard Esper? I know this is a big deal in the vintage tiki community because of all the rum based drinks but was wondering if it was also a big deal among yachties? Seems like it should be. 🙂 Godspeed.

I’ve just been going through the forum and noticed there was no reply to your question. I could have sworn I answered this. Perhaps I did so on my phone and it didn’t post correctly? Anyway, my apologies…
We’re familiar with the tot ration as it came to attention when we visited Antigua. There’s an old navy club there that continued the tradition of issuing the rum ration to all the club members. Sadly we were not allowed to attend, so we made up for it on the beach instead 😉 I always associate Antigua with rum, and rum with Antigua.
As for Black Tot Day, it passed us by on that particular date but no doubt we’ve made up for it since then. The only sailors I know who would celebrate Black Tot Day are ex-Navy yachties. The rest of us appear to celebrate rum tots randomly, not to mention regularly!
Peace and fair winds!
