Nearly everything that I have heard or read speak to the quality of the Beta engine with a single exception.  On the ‘Cruiser’s Forum’, a question was posted about the anodes in the heat exchanger having a short life.  The number of replies posted seem to indicate that, indeed, there is a perceived problem.  Having gotten your new Beta a little over two years ago, has Esper’s engine experienced anything like that?

Good question, Keith. Yes, the anodes don’t last long so I carry a large stock of replacements. When we first started cruising with the Beta I was replacing them every 2-4 months. My latest anode, however, appears to have lasted much longer. I’m not sure if this is to do with the ‘quality’ of the anode (I have two different makes), not using the engine during lockdown, or a change in the type of seas we are sailing in. But yes, they don’t last as long as I’d have hoped so I just carry plenty of spares and check it every two months.

The other thing I should add is that none of the anodes I’ve bought fit. They’re all too long so I have to cut every one down to size. That’s a minor frustration.

    Peace and fair winds!
