“Don’t ever put davits on your boat, they’ll spoil her beautiful lines!”
That’s what we were told when we first moved onto SY Esper. So for years we hoisted our various tenders (from plastic inflatable to folding Portabote and smart Tinker sailing dinghy) up and over the guard rail to be stored on deck where they got in the way.
Would you have davits? Do you have davits? Do you want davits?
In this week’s episode Jamie explains why we have davits, how we use them and talks about some of tricks to make them work well for you.
We tried alternative solutions for a long time, but SY Esper is an over-rigged cutter ketch, so there’s very little deck space to store much. Eventually we realised that as cruisers “function over form and pure practicality” had to become our mantra.
We also have a full a dinghy tour of tiny and beautiful Dinawan Island before the rain thrashes down and puts paid to our plans for a beach BBQ.
Check out our davits here…
Peace and fair winds, friends!
