At 06:00, the boat shook to the sound of thunder: we had just experienced an earthquake at anchor.
Roughly 90 percent of all earthquakes and 75 percent of all active volcanoes on Earth occur along the Ring of Fire, and we have been sailing in this seismic minefield for the last ten years. We’ve experienced a few earthquakes first-hand, but never at sea.
In 2022, we arrived in the Sunda Islands, where we have seen more volcanoes than anywhere else. In the podcast, we try to understand why people choose to live in such a risky area.
Back in 2019, we sailed to one of the most famous volcanoes in the world, Krakatoa, and made two video episodes about the experience:
