ROSEN MONTAG

A great evening was had by all in a packed bar on Monday when Hackl, of Pink Panther Events & Friends, put on a German-style carnival. We think the pictures speak for themselves!

Turn your VHF to 69 for communicating around the bay: every morning at 09:00 from Monday to Saturday you should tune your VHF to channel 69 for news and views from fellow yotties on what is known as "the net". The net is there for all of us to share information. It follows a set structure every day and then remains open all day for people to contact each other, should they wish to. Six "Net controllers" take it in turns to bring the net to everyone. A German translation is provided for those who speak German and find English difficult to follow. Currently they are:

Monday - Dave of ‘Tento’ (Netsel)

Tuesday - Karen of ‘Antigua Lady’ (Yacht Marina)

Wednesday - Gwen of ‘KW’ (Netsel)

Thursday - Dottie of ‘Roseanne’ (Yacht Marina)

Friday  - Paul of ‘Ballena’ (Yacht Marina)

Saturday - Terry of ‘Reality’ (Yacht Marina)

The topics covered are:

Medical, dental or other priority traffic

The weather - listeners are invited to share their forecasts with everyone Marina

Marina, safety and security issues - covering any points concerning the community.

Lost and found -  make a plea for a lost item or describe a found object. Arrivals and departures - a great way to say hello or goodbye

RESPECT CHANNEL 69

to your friends.

Birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations - don't keep it to yourself, share it with the community.

Social events and activities - a whole host of happenings that you would not know about without the net.

Parts, services or advice needed - a very useful section in which people ask for help, usually regarding boats, but also on a variety of problems that sometimes arise as a result of living on a boat in a foreign country.

Treasures of the bilge - an opportunity to sell, swap or give away items you no longer need.

Any other business - literally anything goes in this last section
We urge you to keep the channel open throughout the day as there are sometimes general or urgent announcements made concerning all those living on boats in the Marmaris Bay area.

You will also hear the occasional general announcement, or plea, from your fellow yotties who have particular problems. Liz and Jamie of ‘Esper’ put out a plea when their anchor chain got wrapped around a submerged buoy. Within minutes a trio of yottie divers from the marina headed over and freed them. It wouldn’t have happened without the ‘Net’.

It is the nature of yotties to help one another and Porthole recognizes the value of the great system we have here.  Please respect it.

In the next issue we will explain some ‘VHF Etiquette’ tips.
