India. A land of contrasts. We fell in love with India so much we stayed there for three years, where Esper grew roots and we got to travel across this incredible sub-continent. By this time Jamie was entering many photography competitions, like this image which was commended in the Sony World Photography Awards (low-light category), and Liz was now an officially published travel writer.
The problem with living on a boat in India is the lack of maintenance facilities, so after three years we had to leave and head down to the Maldives for a haul-out. It’s not a bad place to be stuck for three months!
The aim was to head towards South Africa by crossing the equator to Chagos and then cruise towards Madagascar. We got as far as three degrees north of the equator before being blown off-course. You can read all about those horrendous four days here.
Instead we crossed the Indian Ocean eastwards and ended up in Malaysia.
